In 1900, Frank Baum published “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” which tells the story of a girl named Dorothy in a magical land of Oz with her friends Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion. Each of them have challenges to overcome and together, they embark on an adventure to seek the wizard’s help. This story gained popularity and was made into film, a Broadway musical, and several sequels. Frank Baum started writing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1898. He named Dorothy after his niece who died in infancy in 1898. When the book was completed in 1900, Frank assembled the pages of the first copy. The first 10,000 copies printed were sold out in 2 weeks and it remained a bestseller for 2 years.
